Omar Ali Saifuddin was born on September 23, 1914 in Brunei Darussalam. His father, Muhammad Jamalul Alam II. Sultan, reigned from 1924 to 1950.1950. on June 4, his brother, Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin, died unexpectedly, and Omar Ali Saifuddin, not being his heir, ascended the throne. 1951. he was officially crowned on May 31. Brunei had been a British protectorate since 1888. During the reign of Omar Ali Saifuddin, Brunei gradually moved towards independence. In 1959, he founded the Brunei National Party, which fought for independence. In 1962, Brunei joined to the British Commonwealth. 1967. On January 1, Brunei gained its independence from the United Kingdom. On August 29, 1967, Omar Ali Saifuddin abdicated in favor of his son Hassanal Bolkiah. After his abdication, he remained active in public life and became Brunei's first defense minister. He died on September 7 at the age of 71.

III. Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin's coinage from 1950-1967 was one of the most significant periods in Brunei's history. During this period, the Sultanate's financial system underwent significant development, and the appearance of coins contributed to the strengthening of Brunei's national identity. The first coins of the Sultanate were issued in 1950, and a total of 12 different types of coins were minted until 1967. The coins were made primarily of bronze and silver and had denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 cents, as well as $1, $5, and $10. The coins featured the coat of arms of the sultanate on the obverse, and a portrait of the sultan on the reverse. The coat of arms is a round shield showing a ship sailing among the Sultan's ships. Around the shield is the name of the sultanate, Brunei, and the year the sultanate was founded, 1368. The portrait of the sultan depicts the sultan in traditional sultan attire.
