Andrew I 's life

King Andrew I of Hungary, also known as Endre I, ruled Hungary between 1046 and 1060. He is the III. He was the third ruler of the House of Árpád, founded by King Stephen. However, he did not come to the throne easily. He fought for the kingdom, but in 1051 he was forced into exile in the territory of the bishopric of Eger. Later, in 1057, he allied himself with his younger brother, Béla, and attacked their half-brother, Solomon, who had ruled until then. The two brothers were successful, and in 1058 Solomon was forced to flee the country. During the reign of Andrew I, the Hungarian kingdom became stronger. The king successfully concluded peace with both the German-Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire, and stopped the military advance of Kievan Rus on the eastern borders. The country's economy also developed, and the ruler offered to expand the territory of the kingdom. However, his personal life was less successful. His wife, the Byzantine princess Anastasia, was often hostile to him because of her origin, and the king's health also deteriorated due to court intrigues. He died in 1060. His younger brother Béla took over the throne from him.

During the coinage of the András era, in addition to the previously used metal coins, a new type of coin was also introduced, the silver coin. The initials of the ruler's name and the royal coat of arms are often found on the coins minted in the time of András I.
